Snapchat jumps onto the bandwagon of generative AI with the introduction of its new feature, "Dreams". This feature works wonders to transform traditional selfies into imaginative scenes reminiscent of one's wildest dreams. Drawing parallels to PrimsaAI, Dreams deploys AI to morph users into various characters or beings, ranging from a grand renaissance royal to a sultry mermaid.
Given the growing popularity of self-expression through digital avatars, Snapchat expects Dreams to kindle a whole new trend. But unlike traditional lenses and filters, Dreams isn't free. While users can experience the first wave of Dreams-generated personas within a pack of eight images for free, they would need to shell out $0.99 for any subsequent set via in-app purchases.
To sweeten the deal, Snapchat offers a streamlined ability to access and revisit your Dreams creations. Stored securely in the Snap Memories, users can explore and retrieve their imaginative personas whenever they wish. Given Snapchat's massive success with its subscription platform, Snapchat+, the company is confident that its loyal, primarily young audience will not hesitate to open their wallets for such innovative features.
Having been in the testing phase since May, Dreams is all set to roll out commercially. Initially, it'll be available for users in Australia and New Zealand, with a global rollout in the pipeline over the following weeks. Undoubtedly, with Snapchat's consistent endeavor to leverage the latest in AI technology, Dreams may soon find a coveted spot in the realm of digital self-expression and creativity.
